Well with all the recent analyzing of the healthcare system, it isn’t surprising that obesity would come up on the healthcare radar. Obesity has grown drastically over the past decade. Since obesity is a major factor in developing heart disease, its no surprise that obesity has become the number one problem with United States citizens. The New York Times said this in an article concerning obesity and health care:

Mr. Thorpe concluded that the prevalence of obesity is growing faster than that of any other public health condition in the country’s history. Health care costs related to obesity — which is associated with conditions like hypertension and diabetes — would total $344 billion in 2018, or more than one in five dollars spent on health care, if the trends continue. If the obesity rate were held to its current level, the country would save nearly $200 billion a year by 2018, according to the study.

Maybe there should be more commercials showing the dangers of over eating and lay off the smokers for once. Instead of people telling people to put out their cigarette because its bad for your health, maybe we should be telling them to get that greasy burger out of their mouth? At what point will we realize that having over half of the population overweight is a bad thing? In a few generations, U.S. citizens will look like the fat tourists from WALL-E, only able to move around with power chairs. What a sad country that would be. The real sad thing is that all the smokers in the country that people mock and condemn are more than likely in better shape than 2/3′s of the people saying their killing themselves. If you ever lose a race to someone who smokes a pack of cigarettes a day, you really need to rethink your diet and lifestyle. Because if they can beat you with lungs that are inhaling 4,000 chemicals a day killing all of their major organs, what does that say about your overall health?
